Are you ready to experience wildlife up and close? Join us for the best seal adventure with Australian and New Zealand Fur seals.

Montague Island, is a small island off the coast of Narooma, in NSW with a large population of Australian and NZ Fur seals. Interactions with these animals are like nothing you have experienced before; be prepared to let your inner child out meanwhile you flip, spin and dive with them.

If you’re a photographer, this is the trip you want to be on. You will come back with breathtaking close ups of seals and wide angle shots capturing the playfulness of these mammals. We will guide you on how to achieve this through our pre-trip workshop.

Our trip caters to scuba divers and snorkelers, photographers and non photographers; both experiences are fantastic and will get you face to face encounters. If you would like to know which one suits you better, just email us or give us a call.

Our trip starts in Narooma, we will make our way from Farnboro Motel to the marina, where the boat will be awaiting for our departure to Montague Island.

Minimum requirements: Advanced or equivalent for scuba divers, freediving certification for freedivers and no qualification for snorkelers. This is one of our easier trips, so come and join us!

Underwater Photography Workshop

All Aquatic Imaging Australia expeditions include a pre-trip workshop to get the best out of your setup, as well as photo workshops/reviews throughout the expedition. This year we are including as a first a package of the best imagery from Vanessa Torres Macho and a group online review post trip.

Exclusions: Flight to/from Hervey Bay, scuba diving, dive equipment, alcohol/ drinks.

Your Expedition Leader

Vanessa is a passionate award winning underwater photographer, technical diver, scuba instructor and freediver who has been visiting Montague Island since 2015. She considers this location a bucket list destination for ocean lovers, some of her most iconic images have been taken here.

Her 23 years of diving are marked by growth as a diver and working hard to perfect her craft. This enables her to bring you the best tips to create your best images regardless of the environment and feel comfortable in the water at the same time.

Vanessa will make sure you are prepared to come back with incredible imagery. This island is the perfect environment for wide angle and close up of these sea puppies.

Who is this trip for?

This expedition is for ocean, nature and wildlife lovers. Whether you’re starting in your underwater photography journey, are a more experienced shooter or just love diving and want to enjoy the incredible seal encounters with Australian & NZ Fur seals, then this is your adventure!

This trip is ran as a snorkelling/freediving or scuba adventure and as such you will need to be a comfortable swimmer and diver. Scuba divers need an advanced certification and freedivers need to be qualified too. Each expedition guest will need to have dived/snorkeled within the last 6 months from the date.

Please be advised that you can be approached quite close by seals which are large animals. So being comfortable with wildlife in the water is a must.

Underwater Photography Workshop

Learn the art of capturing remarkable images during three days of snorkelling and freediving. Aside from incredible wildlife interactions with the fur seals, this expedition will allow you to progress and finesse your creativity and technique. For those jumping on the photography train, this expedition will begin with a phone or face to face consultation with Vanessa; a quick health check on your gear and comfort shooting underwater.

For those in Sydney, we include a half day dry workshop which will provide you with practical techniques. Remote options are available too.

Seal photography is fast and you need to adapt quickly, we learnt it the hard way! Throughout the expedition there will be opportunities to review images and plan ahead to get the most out of every dive. We know the struggle, we promise, we have been there before.
